HELP-First Bike-Flat battery???
Hi! just bought my first bike, a 1999 CBR600FX. Just loving it so much! But it has been sitting in my garage for just over 2 weeks unused while I have been training to pass my test!! And although it used to start up happily when I started it, the battery seems to have eventually gone flat what with not being ridden at all!! (probably because i've fired it up a few too many times! my fault entirely!)
But I'm just learning about bikes now, has anyone ot some advice about what I should do...
I'll probably just call a mechanic out to charge it up.... Or can I do it myself??

First thing to learn is that your batter won't charge unless your engine is running at 5000 RPM or more so starting it up every now a again like you described most likely did run down the battery. Don't have a mechanic charge your battery. For what a garage or a bike shop will charge you, no pun intended, you can go out and buy your own charger.

RE: HELP-First Bike-Flat battery???
if the bike started well when it had power you can "bump start" it , its pretty easy just push bike to a moderate jogging pace in neutral hop on and pop it into second gear or hold the clutch and run either way just have the ignition in the "run" position

It should bump start, i`d recomend you sit on the bike and you get a friend to push you.
Heres what you do -
Get on turn ignition on make sure the kill switch is in the run position,
Put it into second gear and hold the clutch in,
Have a friend push you to a reasonable pace,
Let the clutch out and the bike should start, (BE PREPARED AS YOU DON`T WANT TO GAS IT AND FALL OFF THE BACK)
As soon as its started you can pull the clutch back in and pull over,
Take it out of gear and leave it running, or go for a ride.
The easiest way to charge you battery back up is to simply go for a ride a good 10 mile trip should put plenty of power back into it.

To rechage the battery the last line of instruction from Anubis is a must but you bike must consistantly reving at over 5000K for a good consistant charge.

RE: HELP-First Bike-Flat battery???
Thanks for your help guys! appreciated! kicking myself a bit for being too eager!
Think I might get an experienced friend to sit on it and I'll do the pushing seeing as Ive never actually ridden it before!! can just see it now squirting out from under me!
then I'll take it for a its first LONG, GLORIOUS outing.
Can you recommmend a battery charger for the future?? Are they easy to use?
thanks guys.
