HELP F3 Fuel Issues
Sorry for the long story but didnt want to forget any details that might matter
I finished my 95 F3 just in time for bike week. Because I was towing my trailer up we just put my bike in the back of the truck. The second day there my fuel pump died. We removed the fuel pump and connected the short hose in place so now the fuel gravity feeds to the carbs. It ran great until 2 weeks ago. I washed my rims off and let them dry. When I went to take off the bike kept stalling at idle I had to hold the idle cracked. So I figured something got wet and went for an hour ride on the highway hopeing it would dry itself out. Didnt fix the problem. I also found that my right turn signal no longer worked. Removed the carbs cleaned them and reinstalled. Found that the fuel pump relay was bad not the pump so I reinstalled the fuel pump and replaced the relay. Ok the bike runs great now the best its run yet. Saturday Im heading home and only had $2 left and needed gas bad so I put the cheap crap in. On my way home the bike dies. I put my hand on the fuel pump and nothing great just my luck stuck on the highway with no tools. I wedge my hand under the fiberglass and jump the relay nothing. So I pull out the fuel pump and connect the lines together. Runs but keeps dieing. I limp it home figureing I have a kink in the line. I use the short piece of hose from before an run it from the tank to the carbs. Went to the gas station and filled the tank not paying attention I filled it with low grade fuel. Rode around for half and hour and it stars stalling out again. If I give it a few minutes it will restart with the choke runs for a few miles and dies out again. Any ideas? Is it just bad gas?
I drained the tank just to look in the tank and petcock. No rust or debris. Lines are all clear no kinks or blockages.

ok, im stumped other than it being just a coincidence that you had 2 pump relays take a grap on you. you might be better off taking it to a shop brother. or you can go the sneakey route and get the number for MMI's HONTECH program. tell them your a graduate and working on a bike. tell them your issue and they will either tell you right then or they'll research it and get back with you. perk of going to MMI is lifetime student assistance.
Well at the moment I have a direct feed running from tank to carbs. Im starting to wonder if its a heat issue. Fan is coming on and its not over heating. But maybe corrosion somewhere and when the bike gets warm enough it increases the resistance.

ok, well it does it after its hot. it will restart with the choke only. well i doubt its bad gas. have you checked the filter yet? i know its a dumb question im just trying to get every little thing out while we try to trouble shoot. i would trace the wiring harness. if there is a wire close to the motor and it gets hot there is a chance that if the wire has a bad spot the heat could cause it to expandand not complete the current. lemmie think on it and ill get back at ya.
Well its gone again until it happens next time. I put $2 of high test in it with a shot of marvel mystery oil. Recharged the air filter. Cleaned and gapped the plugs. Took it for a test drive and seemed fine. Im going to take it for a longer one now and see how it does. While I had the body off I checked all the connectors I could see and they didnt seem to have any corrosion or junk in them. But the fan connector was a little loose. I pinched the terminals a little tighter and put a zip tie on to hold it together tight hopefully that was it.
Don't know wot your problem may have been, but uglyangelracing, I sure would like to have you on my next ride, you sound like one handy guy, that think's outside the circle. Most of the guys I ride with think that removing the dipstick to check the oil, would void their warrantee. Their the types who can wax lyrical about their latest computer & wot it does, but still can't set up their VCR's.
Good on you.
Good on you.
