HELP!! Can I weld the Engine where the Frame Sliders Insert?
Hello all,
I have a 2003 CBR600RR. I am new to bikes and was worried I would drop it so I got Frame Sliders. Seemed like a wise idea at the time. Anyway, I was looking into another problem I was having and I noticed that the there was a crack in the 'Tube' which holds the frame Sliders and the engine to the frame (I think).
Can I get this welded or do I need to get the part replace?

It's hard to tell without pictures, but I'm trying my best to picture it in my mind, haha. If you're talking about the threaded hole that the bolt goes into, that is most likely a part of the engine itself, and if there are problems with that, you may end up having to use a heli-coil to replace the threads. If you are talking about a kind of spacer that goes between the frame and the engine itself, you may be able to find someone that can weld the crack in it, or you may have to knock the piece out and have a new one welded in? Pics may help for better advice...

I have up loaded two Pixs.
AS you can see, the crack is now two cracks which resulted in a whole peice falling out. It is part of the engine as far as i see.

Welding cast aluminium isn't easy but it can be done. The fact is, if you can find a welder that is skilled enough to take on this repair, they will charge ALOT. I weld for a living, and i wouldn't do it unless the engine was out of the frame. The headache of pulling the motor and the cost of the repair is probably worth replacing the engine.

i did the exact same thinglast year and i went to about 15 different places and everyone said that they would need just theblock with all the internals out because of the seals and gaskets and the amount of heat needed to weld aluminum.. i took it to a body shop and 200.00 and 2 weeks later ithas beenfine since last year..
