Headlight Died. What to buy?

RE: Headlight Died. What to buy?
in reference to what bufferedaspirin said, i was also under the impression that hid's threw light differently and therefore required projectors to focus the light. is that not the case? the only reason i haven't swapped over is the price. i'd much rather be pulled over for offending oncoming traffic if it means the traffic is that much more aware of me, like all the guys who run illegal pipes on their bikes (noise violation), the more attention you get from the traffic around you, the less likely you are of becoming a bumper sticker. next up, HID tails!

Spectacular, I'm sold! I've double checked the wiring, and the bulb must be blown, because the wires are putting out 12 volts. So, I guess I'll go ahead and make a purchase.
Blue Fox: I'd like to follow your suggestion and get as close to natural light as possible. Would it be a bad idea to go as low as 5000k?
Would these headlights work for me? My bike is yellow, and I'd just kinda like to get a closer match if I can.
However, I care more about being able to see clearly in most/all weather conditions. Out of these, it sounds like 10,000 would not be the best idea, since its too cool of a color. So, would you suggest 5,000k, 6500k, or 8000k?
Edit:
I just did a little bit of research and found some pictures comparing the light outputs. I've made my choice -- 5000k it is! Blue Fox, I've looked at your write-up, and I plan to study it when i get mine. I'm excited [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

I'm installing a 6000k HID kit from the same eBay seller, either Monday or on Tuesday. I will be doing another detailed write up on how to install that one. (because you can't extend the wiring and make a new "wiring harness" like I did on my older writeup)......but I've seen a VERY clever mounting method for the high-beam ballast on here or 600rr.net or somewhere.......and I'll be doing something similar to that.
I should be posting that on Wednesday or so with pics and everything. And, if all goes well, it should be a video write up. (I'm a video/sound/graphics major and very bored during the summer.)

cannibal...you are correct in your assumption.
the housing isn't desgined for HID and will not cast the light appropriately.
i'd just get another h7 bulb and save the bling for something else.
you don't need a multi-meter to test your wiring...just swap bulbs mang.

Even though the housing isnt designed for HID it will still make a huge difference in light performance, considering that HID's put out 3000lumens in the 4300k color. Also most new hid kits put thearc at the same point as the stock filament so the glare isnt thatbad.I just put a set on my 954 and its such a huge difference. It will make you alot more visible during the day and also its so much better at night. I used a car kit so I replaced one high beam and my lowbeam.
I got the set from http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1847971for $140 shipped, and they ship it overnight, so youll get them the next day.

I'm pretty happy with the Sylvania Silverstar H7 bulbs. They're very white and noticeably brighter. Not HID bright, but at 4000k they look pretty good. I thought about doing the conversion but figured i'd try the $38 for 2 Silverstar bulbs and see if i liked it first. I do and don't really feel the need to drop the $$$ for HID.

RE: Headlight Died. What to buy?
Just an update ...
I received my bulbs on Thursday after ordering them last Friday. Pretty decent shipping, especially considering the whole kit was 97.99 including shipping. Thanks for the recommendation, Blue Fox. I'm going to try to install them on Sunday. I really hope I can find a good spot in my F4i to mount them.
