my temp will read 95 and then jump up to what i expect is the right temp. after 5-10 min it will go back down to 95. sometimes it will read -- when i know its warmed up enuff. also my trip counter and clock reset sometimes when i shut the bike off.

Most likely a loose connection. The Thermo-Sensor on the bike is basically a variable resistor that changes resistance with temperature. Your temp gauge simply reads a voltage based on that sensor. A loose connection can easliy cause strange readings.
