Question Fuel / Gas Tank leak

I have a cbr 1000f 1989 model that has sprung a leak on the under side of the petrol tank around the front mounting bracket. The bracket appears to have been riveted or spot welded on. Does any one have any experience inthis area ? Is there a seal or gasket between the bracket and tank ? Can I weld or solder the bracket to the tank? Or do i have to cut the bracket off and re rivet? Thanks

I'd run this by the boys in the 1000F Hurricane section. I'm sure I don't have to say how dangerous it is to weld on a gas tank. I would think that either re-spot welding it back on or welding up the hole and bracket would be the best. Naturally take precautions with fuel vapors and what not.
