Front Wheel Identity?
I'd like some front wheel information. I have two 3.50x16 front wheels that I assume are from the CBR900. They look identical at a glance, but when looking closer, differences are detected. They both use 20mm diameter axles, and so they both have the same inner diameter wheel bearings. But one wheel has a bearing outer diameter of 42mm and the other is 47mm. The disc carriers also have different inside diameters.
Can anyone tell me what years had each bearing size? My '47mm wheel' is bent. I got the '42mm wheel' to replace it not knowing it wasn't the same. I'd like to trade my good 42 for a good 47. I prefer to stay with a 16" wheel. Anyone know where I might do this?
Thanks,
ThomBoz

Youre right on the model of bike that the rim is from. I'm not sure about the year though. Go take a look at bike bandits and look for when the bearing size changes. There is usually a description of the bearing size when looking up the parts in the schematic.
Thanks Marcooll,
I went to Bike Bandit and figured it all out. The CBR900 came with 3 different front wheels. 93-95 had two different sized bearing dust seals on either side, but the same bearings. 96-97 had the same bearings as 93-95 but the same dust seals on both sides. 98-99 had new bearing part numbers and larger dust seals. The sizes of the bearings aren't listed, but the sizes of the dust seals are.
The brake discs have different part numbers for the 3 groupings also. And surprising to me, different part numbers for left and right discs on the latter two groups. I examined the discs that I have for the 96-97 and they are absolutely the same... except for a small cast in direction of rotation arrow. Why would the disck care which way its spinning? Maybe it doesn't till after its worn? In all my years of shade tree wrenching, I have never noticed that.
So I have a bent 98-99 that I want to replace, and a straight 96-97 that I want to sell or trade. I have 96-97 discs, calipers, & master cylinder too.
