Default front brakes weak

just went from a cbr600rr to a cbr929rr and the front brakes on the 929 take me forever to stop. they don't seem to have any problems-no grinding,no leaks,no noise-they just are so poor compared to my 600 that I have to believe something is wrong. wondering if i should replace the pads and rotors(they look ok) or if that's just as good as the front brakes on a 929 are?

does the lever feel firm and solid? no spongy feeling like theres air in it? is your fluid in good condition? fresh fluid works much better than old crap in your brakes.

you might have just plain crappy brakes, or maybe just need to upgrade the pads to a sintered pad or something.

no spongy feel at the lever and the fluid looks fine. guess i'll try new pads. Think i should try new rotors also? they seem to be in good shape

Front brakes are usually well strong enough for general road use on most modern bikes ..its hard to gauge what the problem could be, one persons sharp stopers may be anothers nightmare but, if they really are *that* bad something is definitely amiss rather than them being just "crappy brakes" I would think if the discs and pads look fine and the brake lever feels hard enough then it could be pad contamination so you will need new ones and clean the discs with something too!!

thanks Jules i was thinking the pads just weren't doing the job. Also i was reading a post you answered where u said to ride in the center of the lane? I'm not the best rider out there but i was allways told NEVER to ride in the center of a lane because thats where all the oil and junkwinds up on a road.I know it's none of my business but just had to give my opinion on that one so no onegets hurt. thanks

YES YOU SHOULD SCUFF YOUR ROTOER WITH 220GRIT WET SAND PAPER IN CIRCULER MOTION TO BREAK THE GLAZE AND SCUFF PADS OR PUT ON NEW ONES. THEN BRAKES WILL FELL SOFT AT FIRST BUT SHOULD GET MUCH BETTER DONT OVER HEAT BRAKES FOR ABOUT 100 MILES OR SO NO SUDDEN STOPS. ALSOREPLACE FLUID WITH NEWFLUID. IF IT IS DARK AT ALL TIME TO CHANGE.THE FLUID IS MADE TO SUCK UP ANY MOISTURETO KEEP SYSTEM DRY WHENFLUID GETS DARK IT HAS DONE ITSJOB TIME TO REPLACE. JUST NICE EASY RIDING UNTIL PADS AND ROTORS MATE YOUR BRAKES SHOULD WORK GREAT AFTER THAT AND YOU CAN NOT COMPARE BRAKES FROM ONE BIKE TO THE NEXT. LOT OF FACTERS TIRE PSI, BIKE WEIGHT,FLUID CLEAR OR DIRTY,ROAD CONDITIONS.HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. DOUG HONDA TECH 15YRS
