Default fork cap

How do I break down my inverted forks? I've got the cap unscrewed but it still seems to be attached to the spring. I've removed the dust seal and clip but still no go. I want to anodize the uppers but can't get the damn things apart!!

Not sure what model bike you got but if you're running cartridge forks then there's a bolt on the very bottom that holds the cartridge in. Removing this bolt will allow all the guts to come out in one piece. Then remove the dust cap and retaining ring. Now just use the lower like a slide hammer and it'll all come apart nice and easy.
