fault codes?
Looking to understand hondas fault code system. seems really primitive compared to suzuki or yamahas system (counting light flashes as opposed to giving numbers). I looked through my cbr manual and there was no chart or explanation for a fault code system in it. looked on the internet and found one real ****ty youtube video.
Can anyone explain the fault code system and perhaps provide a chart with the code information? is there just one chart for all bikes? Whats the earliest years honda started doing this?(which models and whats the ealiest year you can preform the check?
thanks!

Do you have a specific code you're trying to get info on? And on what bike?
The code definitions are listed in the repair manual. As far as I know they are the same for all the FI bikes, at least up until recent production bikes. I have no idea what they're using on the newer stuff, but it may be the same.
When the system sees a voltage input that is out of its operating range, it stores the system number of the fault. We can then extract the code of the system with the fault.
The ecu only speaks and understands voltage. To the ecu, codes are actually voltage pulse outputs. We can count them and translate that to the universal language of numbers.
