Default F4i "banana" seat with under seat exhaust

I've seen conversions of F4i seats to the RR style to get the under seat exhaust. However what I would really like to do is keep my "banana" seat, and convert the exhaust to an under seat setup.

After a bit of searching online, it looks like changing the sub frame under the seat to the RR one is required to fit the exhaust system under there, so it would seem to me that this would be possible if the F4i rear fairing and "banana" seat could be modified to fit the RR sub frame.

Anyone do this, hear about someone doing this, or just want to put their two cents in?

That just sounds all bad. I'm probably pickier than most but I can say with almost entire certainty that you wouldn't get it to look even half way decent.

Hmmm...sounds like a challenge to me...lol I'm going to start hunting around for donor parts and experiment with this.

Although now that I'm thinking about it, it might be easier to just use a pure RR rear and modify the seat cushion to be one long piece.

You must really love the banana seat! If you go w/ an RR setup, making a banana-type one piece seat to fit it would be some project alright.

Why not just convert to split seat '01-03 style & be done w/ it? I mean, if you're gonna go to a split-seat type subframe, why not just do the split seats & be done w/ it?

Don't let me discourage you though, as I love a good fab up but making your idea look "right" might be a challenge. To each, his own though.

Good luck finding parts around Murfreesboro. You'll probably be running all around Middle TN trying to find everything.

Have you thought about the exhaust routing? If Im not mistaken, you will have to run the exhaust around the outside of your swing arm and then back under the tail.

I just started riding a couple of weeks ago, so i'm still very new to this whole thing. From what I understand the F4i and RR are identical except that the RR has some race tunes parts like suspension and fuel injection system. The only physical difference is the seat and the subframe underneath it. If I replace the subframe with an RR one I should be able to install the stock exhaust headers and can with out any customizations to the pipes.

If this does end up being a project and not just a pipe dream (pun intended) i'll post the how-to even if it does end up being a visual failure.

I think you have some mis-information. Physically, everything is different, they are completely different bikes. The RR wasnt just a carry over from the F4i, it was completely redesigned from the ground up when it replaced the F4i. About the only thing they have in common is they are 600cc bikes. Im not sure if the header will simply bolt onto the F4i engine, as the the engines are different as well.

One thing to remember is the F4i was Honda's top of the hill 600cc sportbike before the 600RR was developed. The F4i has fuel injection and a race inspired suspension just like the RR. The F4i is not a detuned 600 RR.

+1 to what justasquid said. You need to do more research.

And to further kill this idea I found the following at twowheelforum.com:

I've looked at it as a mod for my '04 F4i...Having wrenched on birdman's 03 and Snakemann's '04 RR's...it could be done with some fabricating...but that would entail basically putting the rear swingarm and shock and subframe of the RR on the F4i However, the FI map is different from the F4i to the RR so a PC III would be necessary. also, the basic geometry would be off, so I wouldn't think the bike would really be good for much except cruising or posing...for the money it would cost...just buy the RR
