Default F2 to F4 rear shock upgrade

I just bought a F4/i? rear shock because I heard that it would fit my F2. I wanted to replace the old shock, which probaly has never been serviced. My question is, have any of you attempted this upgrade yet...and what kind of changes should I expect?
I was told that it would fit, that I have to zip tie something, the seat height will be raises alittle and something about steering.

I'm building a project F3 right now. I installed a 2000 F4 rear shock on my 97 F3. It bolts right up! You have to zip tie the oil reservoir to the frame because it will not reach to the back of the rear peg. It raises the tail about 1.5 inches. I have not ridden the bike yet because my project is far from complete. The shock feels a lot better than the stock one. The F4/F4i shock should fit your F2 no problem. In case you are wondering the 600RR shock will NOT fit, unless you replace the bottom shock mount by cutting and welding new mounting brackets. TOO MUCH WORK FOR MEEE!

Let me know when you take it out for a ride. I would like to know how different it handles.

sounds good...
but I may still have a ways too go on my bike. I'm trying to change the tires and chain, them get it registered and "good to go" with all the paper work, so I can ride my bike on base.
I'm thinking it may be another month before I can really ride my bike.
Oh yeah, how did you support your bike to change the shock.

I left the bike on the kickstand and got a car jack and jacked it up underneath where the rear suspension linkage is. I think I used the mount where the exhaust is. This will be OK because there is not that much weight on it. First loosen the shock bolts. Then lift the bike with the car jack to take the weight off of the rear shock. Remove rear shock. When installing the F4 shock, it is going to be about a 1/2 in. longer. Just lift the bike using the car jack until the F4 shock fits.

I was going to use the car jack with a block of wood- didnt know if it was safe or not...but if you had success with it- ill try it.
also, I'm waiting to save up some $ so I can get the chain set and change the tires and shock all at the same time.

CooL, let me know how it handles. I know of people who have done this swap, but I have not ridden on one. I am actually putting together a project F3. I installed an F4 rear shock and changed the fork oil with a little bit thicker oil (15W). I also lifted the front forks to the highest they could go. The bike sits as high as a 600RR. The motor is bored to 618cc, jetted with a slip-on. Also got steel brake lines. I am painting the gas tank right now so I have not been able to ride it, not to mention i have NO PLASTICS! I think I am going to rock the street fighter look for a while. I've done a lot to my bike so, let me know if you need any help.
