F2 Engine vs F3 Engine and Cam Question
Hi guys,
I kept thinking that I got a 96 F3 engine for my kart, but I ran the VIN last night and found out it was a 94 F2 instead. I was just wondering what kind of performance I will get out of the F2 compared to the F3.
On another note, I recently did a search on F2 cams and came up with a thread that stated that F2, F3, F4 and F4i cams were all interchangable. What kind of differences would I expect to find if I purchased a set of different cams off of these bikes and installed them on mine?
Thanks for the help,
Cal

I think you answered your own question when you did a search on the cams, by the fact that they are all interchangeable. It means you can use any one of them and they are the same!

I know that all of the cams have a possible fit, but I have read that Honda did something like raise the power band on the F4i's something like 700 rpm. There is also the possibility of some duration differences, but I'm not sure on that.
Another question related to the cams. I have heard rumors about running two intake cams instead of an intake and exhaust cam. Has anyone ever thought about this or even had it done?

i have raced the f2 and f3 motors for 15 years in road racing. the trannies have a diff 2nd and 3rd gear ratios and the f3 cams are the hrc cams from the f2. from what i understand the f4 is the same to f3 but i have yet to prove it. need to get a set and do the measuring. the best way to get power is to use adjustable cam timing gears and set to the specs from the maker. you can easily tell the diff in cases for years as in 95 they use the electric reader ffo speed off the tranny not the front wheel like in 94---all parts are interchangable except the tranny gears. there is approx 8 horse gain with the f3 not accounting for ram air but the ram air can be adapted to the f2 carbs just takes some work.
Sweet! Thank you v7 racer, that was a good chunk of what I was looking for. I think that I might experiment with the F4 cams when I get the engine all figured out and ready to test, so I will keep this thread updated with my progress. V7, would you care to share your cam timing specs?
