Default F**k, another prob....

May as well dedicate this forum for my heap of a bike!

it's now violently misfiring/shuddering. No fault codes so am I right at looking at coils as the prob?

bike is really getting on my **** now.....

First thing is to determine which is not firing. Then switch that coil with another and see if the misfire moves with it or not. If it does, get a new coil. If it doesn't, then look further.

the prob is that it's intermittent and sometimes at constant throttle or sometimes under load but never at idle. I had this prob before but at that time I put on a 15/45 sprocket set and wired open the HTEV with the flapper removed. I reckon the 15/45 was hiding the misfire just through sheer brutal acceleration, as I've now gone back to standard and it's back. Plugs done approx 2000 miles ago, proper spec iridium, air filter done also.

how do you test coils in the way you're describing? I've had coil trouble in a car before but the only way to find the culprit was trial and error with a new coil swapping in and out for test drives.

feels like the bike is cutting out for 10th's of a second, if you get me?

If you can't duplicate the misfire off the bike, that makes it tough.

The theory is that if the misfire is on #1, switch the coils with #2. If the misfire moves to #2, you need a coil. If it stays at #1, then the coil is fine. You can do the same with plugs and injectors if it comes to that.

how long since your valve clearances were checked?

Don't know if they ever have been checked?

Might be worth a check. How many miles/km are on it?

29K. This seems to happen after I've ridden through wet conditions. It'll run fine through rain but then will misfire the next time I have it out. As if rain gets in somewhere and then the heat off the bike dries it out, misfiring until it does.

Would a side stand sensor maybe cause? Should've mentioned it's running a PC111 mapped as a full system.

I have heard of PCs giving problems, but they are usually more consistent.

Since its water related, maybe simulate the kind of rain that makes it act up by spraying it with a hose. When the trouble spot gets wet, you will be able to pinpoint it.

HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!!

Checked the HTEV valve and it had moved, put it in the 12 O'clock position (safety wired this time) and went for a ride, it's as if someone stuck a super charger on it, completely different bike and exhaust note, sounds like a demented witch with a firework up it's ***!!!!

It's pulling even harder than when the 15/45 kit was on it, hard to believe that stupid valve was killing it all this time! The take off around 7K is crazy

Just hope the next wet ride doesn't confirm a double prob now.
