Default EZ-pass??

Hey

I just picked up an ez-pass for my bike. For people who are not familiar of this device, it allows you to go thru a toll without directly paying there. Its a sensor thing that reads it and charges your account.

so..I got no idea where to put this thing. The only place where I've heard of people putting them is on their windscreen but while looking at my bike, the curvature of the windscreen doesn't allow me to use this application.

If you have one..where did u put yours?? I don't have a tank bag or anything. I dunno if it will read in my backpack or under my passenger seat.

I was thinkin right at the most frontest portion of my tank..posterior to the tripple. dunno if a bump would knock it loose

There are people who sell holders for them. In Halifax they are currently testing a magnetic holder which would hold onto the tank.

I have heard they work well in the tank bag pocket. On bikes with large MC, that's another options - more for the cruise folks.

You could also trying to look DEA and wear it on a short chain around your neck

Just a ?
How slow or fast can you be going for the thing to be read? Is there a bar that stops you or is it free flowing?

That depends on the agency - on the Halifax bridge slow right down as they're still working on it.

Yes they also have bar's... just aim for the right edge so if you have to go around it won't matter... be ready to stop.

I absolutly can't get EITHER of mine to register AT ALL unless I pull into one of the cash lanes, stand on my feet and wave the box at the receiver. This is an incredibly common complaint amongst bikers. Pretty ****ing stupid if you ask me. A couple a months ago I saw a guy on the tollway with the thing duct taped to his helmet. I bet it still doesn't work.

EZ-Pass \ I-Pass says it's because if they crank the signal strength up in your receiver anymore, the battery would die out way quicker. One of mine is 3 years old, and I still haven't had to replace it. Even if I had to replace it once a year, I'd be happy, so long as I can use the no-stop lanes. 2009 and we still can't make an efficient radio transmitter?

The receivers scan 16 times per second, so you can go as fast as . . .

*does math*

. . .225 MPH and have it still register. There are, of course, posted speed limits. Some of the narrow ones around here get down to 15 MPH. It's just a safety precaution cuz the lane is only slightly wider than a car, nothing to do with the transceiver.
be aware cops like to post speed traps just on the other side of the 15 MPH lane .

Some of the lanes in some states DO have bars. I've knocked a few off in the car. They don't dent anything, as they're held in place by a poofy cushion, kindof like how a couch cushion stays in place, so the pop out as soon as you smack them, but they leave that yellow \ orange paint streaked all up the side of your vehicle so the cops know you did it.

You can tie it to a string and drag it behind your bike, that doesn't mean it's going to work reliably.

I stick my ez-pass right between my speedo and windscreen. Theres a nice little pocket right there where it fits almost perfectly. Its a tad loose but I've never had any problems with it coming out over bumps.

I have no problem getting mine to stick and hold to my windscreen on my F3... Never take it off.
