Rebuilding a engine is more than just unbolting things and then bolting them back together. You have to be able to diagnose the condition of the parts you've taken apart to know whether or not they need to be replaced. Some parts of the engine require special tools and techniques in order to dissassemble without damaging the parts, or injuring youself. I would approach the task with a great deal of respect and caution.

The difficulty is relative to the work performed, and also by your definition of REBUILD.
Why are you rebuilding the Top End? is there something wrong(burning oil, sticking valves, burnt valves?)
By top end, do you mean just the Head?
Or the head and jugs?
What did you have in mind when you say rebuild?
I would get the Factory service manual as the clymer is missing important info.
Anyway, top end rebuild(just the head) you will need to replace valve guides, valve seals, valve seats touched up or replaced while your in there.
Valve springs are good too, face the valves.
Check the cams for wear, tappet surfaces..
as far as "Special Tools"
your going to need a valve spring conpressor, a valve guide driver(might be able to make that) a valve seat cutter if you are touching the seats(might wanna have that done by someone!) and some feeler gauges to set your valve clearences after your done....
Theres more to it than what i listed, if you dont know what any of those things are i would suggest reading alot first, and if you go ahead and want to try it anyway, which is a great way to learn, however be ready to have something go wrong when your done..
