Do i need antifreeze?
I have a 2006 CBR100rr. i bought it in southern CA.
now that i live in VA, where its like 20degrees at night, do i need to change any fluids? Are the stock fluids just fine. I pretty much go out and drive the bike a little bit once a week. Also i only have 3100miles on it, so the fluid is still stock.
thanks my friends,
james

RE: Do i need antifreeze?
even a 50/50 ratio that most pre-mixed radiator fluid should be good for VA area. I'd prolly worry when the temp gets to 0 or below, but honestly it never went 20 last year except once. If your worried about the weather, just winterize the bike and store it for a few months.

Winter in VA....i'm giggling on the inside. Here in WI we see -15F or even a little colder at least a few days in the winter...and we run 50/50 mix...I run 50/50 in my snowmobile. That ratio is good for -34F.
In addition to elevating the boiling point, lowering the freezing point and limiting corrosion in the engine....Antifreeze also serves as a lubricant for the water pump seals. The additives that protect your engine get consumed over time adn so you shoudl freshen it up every couple years. Stick to the green stuff....don't go to the long life pink/orange...it may not play nice with the components in your cooling system.
