Default cracked frame

Riding season is upon us and the search is still on. I have a quick question. If a bike has been dropped and the frame crack. After it has been welded, does it still have the strenght as before. Is it safe to ride? thank ya

if someone wrecked a bike bad enough to crack the frame walk away from it. Its the same idea as patching a tire that get a hole. yea it might fix it and you'd maybe never have trouble but are u willing to risk it on a "what if"

exactly. if you crack the frame even a little bit, the bike is junk now cause it will never be back to 100%. so just walk away and look else where... what kind of bike was it?

What part of the frame? If we're talking honest frame walk way. If we're talking about the tail section... then no biggie.

As long as the guy who welded it knew what he was doing it will be plenty strong and maybe only slightly weaker then had it never been cracked. The issue here is if the frame is still straight. Did he put it into a jig to weld it? If its off by even a little bit from stock geometry it will affect the handling. If it rides nice and you have no issues with the tracking of it, turning, braking, etc... I wouldn't worry about it. Just my .02 from being a powder coater / welder my whole life.

My uncle high sided his 900rr and it got a dimple in the frame the insurance company totaled it because of the fact of the dimple the bike was incarzy good condition .. just shifter leaver and the dimple in the frame and they totaled it and made it so you cant have a title for it unless you had a new frame for it "not patched but new frame" so i would think if the insurance company would band you from it i wouldnt even risk my life ... it could collapse at 50MPH for all you know.... Bikes have alot of power and twisting power so i would think like twice before riding.... fix and sell and buy new

Lower it, put a longer swingarm on it and sell it to some poser.

If it was welded right, that is a big if, it will be fine. Our bikes have alot of welds.
