I have a Rebel 250 that I've been doing some clean up on. It has some rust in a variety of places. One area was the side stand and muffler/exhaust pipe. I use a solution of Oxalic Acid in a plastic tub that I imerse the parts into. Here is a before and after. If it's on the frame, I don't know how you'd do it.

In the bath. (that's the handle bars, not the exhaust of course)

And the final outcome. I let it sit for about 24 hours in the solution.

I think I saw that on Mythbusters. But they were using Coke a Cola and a wad of aluminum foil to clean a chrome bumper. It looked like it worked pretty good.

Home depot sales some stuff called naval jelly, it works really good on rust. Only downside and reason u may not be able to use is : cant use on stainless, will remove paint too and cant let sit more than 15 mins.

here's a link

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/s_t...-Dissolver.htm

Used it on the underside of my rear fender on my cruiser, the rust just wiped off with a towel.

Their are alot of Rust eater products available, but like bigboi said you dont want to use those products on stainless steel (unless it says its safe, but most are for metal only). I have heard of people using Baking soda and water on stainless steel to remove the rust. A guy told me he used a brush kind of like a toothbrush but bigger(toothbrush would work) and made a paste using baking soda and a small amount of water and just rub in the same direction as the grain. I remember he did this on his truck exhaust tips and they looked awesome afterwards.
