Default clacking sound from bottom end

I posted in specific model area about this, ill try here as well. I have a 2003 954. I am experiencing poor idle and low rpm drivability. I have had to replace the fuel tank, pump and filter. (rust in the tank, i am the dummy who everyone knows that left gas in the bike for over 6 months.) Anyways lately it has been making a wierd engaging disengaging noise/sound. it happens once or twice while i am riding, and everytime when the bike is warming up. My buddy the other night noticed that my headlights would get really bright when i accelerated or revved the bike, not getting on it, just revving it to 4-5k. At idle the headlights dim down considerably. here is my QUESTION:Could my stator be going out? And from what i have learned the stator operates on a clutch. Could that clutch be making the noise i am hearing? And if a stator is going, how would that affect overall performance? Could this be enough of a issue that it is causing my rough idle issues? I did take the bike in to the dealer recently to have that starter valves on the throttle bodies synced. they told me the bike was missing slightly, and running exccesivley rich, and said the sync solved that issue. obviously it did not, and i am trying to educate myself further before going back! any help would be much appreciated.
