chain size?
I have a 05 1000 and i want to change my sprockets and chain. What i want to do is drop one off the front and leave my rear stock. The reasond i want to go -1 in the front is to get that quick start from my low rpms. I just dont know how many links i need on the chain for this.
This is going to be my first time my 05 needs the sprocket and the chain change. I would like to know what would be the best way to go on my sprockets? should i stick with going -1 or should i go up +2 on the rear? Im a everyday rider meaning i dont own a car.
I only went up 2 in the rear and didnt do the -1 in front on my bike.
Im in need of new chain and sprockets and will probably go -1 +2 this time. the up 2 in the rear added some much needed oomph, but it could still use some more. Your speedo will be off some though. I plan on getting a speedo healer with the new sprockets. My speedo is currently off by 7 mph at 55. I'm assuming it will be off another 3 or 4 with the add -1 in front. So, I think you could be off by 10mph. of course, my stock speedo was off by 4 mph stock.. so the change was only 3 mph.
But, I'd suggest both.

Sounds good. I just want to make sure that i could get that fast start but at the sametime still be able to hit around the 180s. Another thing is that my bike is still stock and im planning to add a timing advancer is this good or is it just a waste of money?
If you do the -1 +2, you will not be able to hit 180. I believe it will top out around 165 170 ... Im not going to get into why you want to go that fast.. but the quick launch and putting your bike in the power sooner does make it funner to drive.
As for the timing advancer, i have no idea. I think I would hold off until you got your other mods done, if you feel you still need more, then look towards that mod with a pc3 and full exhuast.... the list can go on and on.
If you do the sprockets , I would install a speedo healer. thats my next mod once I change sprockets again.

I am going to go with -1 on the front and get the speedo healer next. The reasond i asked about the 180 is that me and my boys be hitting those #s when we ride here and there. I just dont want to be the last one with a charger on my a$$.
