Default Chain hits chain guard

I went to check the slack in my chain and when I go from the middle of the chain I can actually pull it all the way up to the black plastic chain guard. I know its supposed to be like an 1 1/4" stretch which it is but I think that if the chain guard wasn't there it would be more. Should it be reaching that high? Or should I be measuring from a different spot on the chain? I would have thought that when I took the damn thing in for the 600mile maintenance they would have tightened the chain all they probably did was change the oil though. =/

Take the chain gaurd off then.

No Im just kidding. It should be measured from the bottom at the center of the swinarm. Keep in mind.....it will tighten up with you on it and more so with another person on it and again, more under a load like cornering hard or hitting a huge pot hole. A too tight chain is not good as it binds so use caution when you think it's too loose, it's probably not far off from being correct. Again, measure from the bottom side at the swing arm. Measure it sagging then push it up and that is where you should get your difference of 1.5 inches or what ever your maual says.
