Default Carb Tuning Performance Gain

I just bought my first bike, a 92' F2, and my buddy which I bought it off of said everything is good except the carbs need tuning. Sometimes the bike lugs and shakes when I open up the throttle in 2nd gear even at around 5-6000 rpms, which I am assuming is the carbs. I am thinking about taking the bike to get the carbs tuned, but before I spend money tuning the carbs I was wondering how much performance gain I am actually going to see from properly tuned carbs? I may be selling the bike next season and upgrading, so I want to weigh the cost vs. reward here. Sometimes the bike doesn't lug and it responds nicely, it seems to occur most frequently in rainy or cold weather.

Thanks

If its not running properly, fix it. Two good things will come from it: First, you will like riding it more when it runs well. Second,if you do decide to sell it, you can get a better price for a bike that has been serviced and runs properly.

2 hours of shop time-> $200.

They also bent my rear brake pedal back into shape so that I could actually use it again. A few weeks ago the brake pedal started sticking really badly, and I'd basically have to put all of my 190 pounds onto the pedal to even move it slightly, and I had no chance of locking it up even if I tried. When I took it in to the shop they said it was severely bent, which I still have no clue how that happened, since I was the only one riding the bike, and it was working fine when I bought. Anyways, they fixed it and now it is smooth like butter.

They also lubed up my gearshift, kickstand and other pivot points. It was the first time I've taken my bike in, and I was extremely pleased with everything. Honda mechanics know their stuff.
