Can You Help Me??
Ok I got a 2004 CBR 1000RR about 6 months ago and I got it used. The guy I got it from was 59 and bought it brand new in 04. He did a few track days on it and got tired of it so I got it from him with only 2000 miles on it. I now have 17000 miles on it. The other day I was riding down the highway and my bike just died. I pulled over and turned the key off and on again and everything looked normal so when I hit the starter switch it sounded like it wanted to turn over but it would just wine and then nothing, when I take my finger off the started switch the light would come back on like nothing. So I went to cyclegear and bought a brand new battery put it in and it started like new. Well I rode it for one good day and then yesterday I stoped at a store and when I got back on my bike it did it again. I dont think its the battery because its brand new. I can run with it and pop the clutch and it will run just fine. But when I turn it off It wont turn over. Do you think its the started. Thank
It sounds like a classic case of your regulator packing it in, unfortunately. Good news is though its an easy & relatively inexpensive fix, cept for the battery, but its the 1st thing you think it will be.
Reg is located on the rear of the right side rail, black with cooling fins (about the size of a ciggie packet). Best to replace it with a heavy duty item rather original. The Honda regs are crap, (do a search on the site, see how often this prob comes up) Heavy duty will require slight adjusstment for fitment, but you should never have that prog again. The standard regs over heat, which eventually kills them.
If you ride and you excalerate and the bike starts to jurk then the regulator rectifiar is shot. This unit regulated the chargingof the batterie. So what happens if the light stays on as on the RR it will pull to much current to work the lights and the ignition system(coils and spark plugs willhave a drop in current). This will cause your batterie to go flatand the bike yust will cut out.
Good luck

You need to inquiry with aHonda dealership about this. They just sent a recall for this same issue. I brought my 2004 CBR 1000rr new and are listed as the registered owner therefore Honda sent me the recall. If you have alreadys spent money on this you may be entitled to a refund.
