Question Can we fix it?

Hi all,

This is the worst panel of my 87 CBR1000F do you think it is repairable?

Don't think I'm up to the challenge if it is, but that will depend on how expensive it is to fix?

Not sure how the pic has turned out but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks
John

Everything is fixable John, it just depends how much time and effort you want to put into it. It will need, filling front and rear, contour sanding on the vents and lower bubble, smoothing and painting.

Personally I'd hang it in the shed as a piece interesting bike art and keep my eye on Ebay/Craiglist/Local wreckers for a replacement.

If you do that and concentrate on fixing the rest of the bike one will probably turn up in the needed time frame.

My 2c

Cheers, SB

Of course it depends of part availability where you live, but that piece has had a proper whoopin`... I`d say if you can get a replacement it`s not worth the trouble. You`d still need to paint it after fixing so why not get another one of some other color and sand+paint that. Could be even cheaper after all if you count all the fiberglass, fillers, sandpapers, time etc.

I`m with Seb on this one, hang it up and put a light behind it. Makes a cool wall piece.

It's cheap to fix, if you have the time vs cash.
If you're gonna do a re-paint on the whole fairing,
Then yeah go for it, fiber-glass cloth and resin,
bondo and sandpaper is cheap. You just have to
have patience and not get in a hurry, for quality work.

On the other hand...
If it's the only bad panel and you're keeping the rest original,
Mattson and Sebastion are giving you the straight-skinny.
Close matching is easier done by buying replacement, pre-finished.

Good luck, Ern

Ok guys I hear you!

I'll just put it to one side for now and keep my eyes open for a replacement. Had a trawl yesterday and the only ones for sale were damaged anyway. I think this may be a long wait!

Anyone know what a decent panel may have gone for in the past on ebay or similar so I can start saving?

Thanks
John
