Brand Spanking New
Hi... Just joined the forum today. I'm picking up my new CBR600 RR today. Since I've only owned used bikes is there anything I should look out for on the new bike. I know I have to break the engine in and be careful of the brand new tires and change the oil at 600 and 1000 miles. I'm just wondering if there's anything I should look out for? Happy riding!
Godd luck on pickin up your bike today. I remember I felt like a little kid when I picked mine up about two months ago. Also brand spankin new. Seems like you got everything down pretty much, really watch out for those new tires though. All three of my friends droped their bikes leaving the dealership lot because they got a little to happy with the throttle. Just feather it for a long while until you are sure the coatin is off, and even after it is off the center the turns will get you, cause you'll be hittin new spots on the tire. Aside from that you know about the break in stuff which I agree with, but some people just whack it anyway. If you plan on keepin the bike for a while I'd strongly recommend just breaking it in slowly. I lasted about four hundred miles before I started rippin it up a bit, but I still took it easy some of the time. Good luck with it and be careful, don't let the adrenaline get the best of you, yet. Get used to the power spikes throughout the rpm range so there is no surprises. Later
50-100 miles and your tyres should be at normal grip, no crappy coating left. Or if your impatient ya can take a belt sander to em and wizz off a little rubber and its done for ya. But you`ll be fine within that 50-100 mile you`ll be getting used to your new bike anyway so you`ll most likely be takin it easy.
Thanks...I picked it up yesterday with no problems. Had to go back to work but only lasted 45 minutes (including showing it off to my co-workers) before I skipped out early and was on the bike. Spent 3 hours on it yesterday breaking it in. The bike is awesome!
I am having a little issue with the clutch/gears. Sometimes it seems to stick in third gear (or higher) and I can't tap it into 2 or 1st. Real problem when at a red light. I solved the problem by letting the clutch engage the gears a little bit and it seems to re-set the shifting mechanism and then I can tap into 2nd or 1st. Is this because it's new and will break in or because I need to adjust something. The bike was built out of the crate yesterday.

If you mean what i think you mean, you`ll find it easier to change down the gears as you approach the lights so that when you`ve stopped your already in 1st, are you coming to a stop in say 3rd and then changing cos i`ve never known a bike gear box to like that. But i`ve always rode Honda so ? ? ?
I think ive had the same problem, If i dont downshift all the way to 1st when i get to a light the shifter wont let me get al the way down to 1st and i have to engage a little to get them to shift. I have the clutch in but as I push down on the shifter its not doing anything. It doesnt do it all the time only if Im stopping a bit faster than usual so Ive always contribitued it to that. It never has done it when I come to a slow stop. But now Im better at downshifting when I hit a stop sign or red light so I dont notice it much. So I would like to know whats wrong also. (More or less its prolly just me).
yea... I think it's a function of the gear box, BUT I'm calling the dealership today and may have them look at it. I mean it was built right out of the crate the day I bought it. But the problem you mentioned is THE EXACT SAME THING. I'll post after I talk with the dealership. Though I too have solved the problem by downshifting more often; however, it becomes a problem when I have to break hard and then accelerate as I can't get down to the correct gear.
