Default bizarre occurance w/ odometer

well im going to pick up my first bike tomorrow, its a 2000 f4. the ad said it only had 4500 miles on it, but when i went to talk to the guy, he said it actually only had 3500, because he had push started it once with a completely dead battery and the stator or something had freaked out and the tach, odometer, and speedo were just flicking back and forth. sound possible??

If the battery dies the ODO doesnt go out Sounds fishy.

What does it really matter. 4500 is absolutly nothing.

Sounds fishy
Did somebody call?

You have no way of knowing how many miles or even if that is the original cluster.

I NEVER heard of an ODO forgetting how many miles, which makes me wonder why the clock goes out.

Yeah that would be one for the record books...

In any case, check the numbers when you look at it in person and so long as everything matches... completely low-ball the guy. And I mean LOWBALL. If it offends him - tell him, "look I've never heard of the odometer thing before so pardon my skepticism, but if you drove all the way up here your time has got to be worth something. I'll give you, "$XXXX.XX" dollars for it right now."

LOWBALL!

If he doesn't take the cash wish him a nice drive home. If it even LOOKS clean, it's worth $2000. Doesn't matter if the engine/tranny is trashed at that price. That's what I would offer.
