Default Bike Wont Start Sometimes

Hey guys Ive got a question for anyone. I have a 2001 F4I and sometimes when its hot and I put my bike in neutral, the green neutral light doesnt always stay on and when i shut my bike off , it wont turn back on! when I hit the start button the neutral light will go off and my bike wont start. I have to fiddle with it and it always takes a few minutes to start again. Today when my bike was at about 220 degrees, i put the bike in neutral, let off the clutch and the light was not on and as soon as i put the kickstand down, the bike shut off so it must have thought that it was in first or something..(im not sure) I just need an answer as to why this is happening as it is very frustrating. Thanks so much!!!

Sounds like a faulty or mis-adjusted neutral saftey switch. They are fairly cheap and pretty easy to change. If your oil is dirty, it can cause a false reading as well.

First thing I would do is make sure the oil is clean and is not overdue for an oil change. Then, I would probably pull the switch and make sure its not dirty. If its not dirty, you may want to re-adjust it. If that doesn't solve it, you can replace it.

Oh okay thanks so much for the quick reply!! Sorry im not good with electrical but could you tell me where I would locate the neutral safety switch? Im just about do for an oil change anyway and was about to do that tomorrow. Ill see if that helps or maybe I will just replace that switch anyway because thats probably what it is.

Should be located near the shifter + transmission....look for a wire going into the gear box....

You may want to google the CBR parts, find a website where they show the entire diagram of this neutral switch...this is one of those parts where if it doesn't go bad, you won't know about such part.

Okay thanks I found out where it is and ordered the part from my local dealership for $20. Easy as heck to get to and should be a 5 minute fix. Thanks a lot

here:
El Manual...
thats a link to a PDF of the F4i manual in my google docs account. index 20 has a massively detailed diagram of the bikes entire electrical system. you can trace the diagram to any electrical component on the bike. i used it to rewire my entire bike two summers ago.
i just tried the link, you'll have to download it. it may mention something about being unable to scan for viruses but click "download anyway," i assure you it's clean

I also just noticed you've already resolved the issue. Never mind haha :/
