Default Bike will not continue to run

Hi,

new to the forum...

I have a 2001 CBR 600 F4i which will start on the botton ok but as soon as I release it the bike cuts out.

Any ideas?

I have a multimeter and can carry out tests.

Thanks.

Check the starter relay for proper operation.

Hello all,

I am looking for further advice on a previous post I made regarding my 2001 cbr600f4i, (bike starts fine on the button but as soon as you release it the bike dies), I have disconnected the starter switch and checked for continuity etc...all is well there as is the starter relay.
I tried checking for shorts to earth by connecting my continuity tester to an earth on the bike then checking all wiring out of the switch.....am i mistaken thinking that the only wires that should show continuity are earths, (grounds)?
I had 3 of the 4 wires testing positive for continuity like this.
Am i completely off track here?

I am confused by its starts but when the button is released..... The starter switch, the kill switch? And can you take a video demonstrating this to help us understand.

I will try and get a video up later but it's a case of the bikes starts on the starter button as normal then as the bikes running as soon as you release the starter button the bike cuts out...in other words as soon as the starter button is released and the starter motor stops the bike dies....no blown or blowing fuses, starter button checks out as does starter relay!!!

I took some video of the problem but could not see how to attach a video or photo to a post......it basically shows the bike turning over on the starter button and firing up and as soon as the starter button is released the bike stops....

In a car I would be looking at the ballast resistor - anyone know what the eqivalent is on the bike? It connects to the coil in a car.

Cheers, SB

Will it start and run normally when you push-start it? When it starts, does opening the throttle keep it from dying?
