Bike turning over but wont start
Hey guys i was just coming home tonight and about a 1/2 mile from my house my bike just died, i thought i might be out of gas, so i put it on reserve and it started back up rode a bout 500 feet and then died again so i pushed it like 500 feet got it started by giving it alot of throttle and it sounded kinda choppy and different for the short ride home and i stalled when i got onto my street and pushed it into my driveway where i filled it up with gas and nowits turning over fine but just wont start up
i cleaned my carbs yesterday and its been running like a dream i went for a 40 mile ride yesterday and everything went great and i went for about a 30 mile ride today and she was running great until it just died tonight luckily right near my house. she didnt smell funny and wasnt over heated of anything. im up to date on oil changes and my fuel pump is throbbing while i try to start it
any ideas guys? i feel like its a gas problem but i just cleaned the carbs yesterday with carb cleaner and shot the air compressor through all the jets, maybe i somehow got em a little dusty before putting them back on but it was running perfectly right until it died so im pretty much just baffled
EDIT 5/26
ok so i replaced all the spark plugs and she started right up and i warmed her up and let her idle for a couple miunutes and then she died again and now she wont start....

Just a guess, but it sounds like you may have flooded it. If you gave it too much throttle, you could have introduced too much gas and fouled out a plug, therefore having the odd sounding engine. When a plug fouls, the bike will usually sound like a twin cylinder... sort of deep toned too. then, when you try to start it again with a fouled plug, the bike has a harder time starting and you could potentially take out the other plugs too.
You may experience backfire as well with fouled plugs.
again, just a guess, but it sounds like thats what happened.
If you pull em and they are fouled, I would just buy a new set of NGK's. Probably the best all around plug you get for your bike. Stay away from cheaper plugs as the ignition system is weak on these bikes and needs a good plug in order to operate correctly. Champion plugs and other cheap ones will only cause you less performance and you'll be changing them more often.

as i was sitting here watching the celtics game i was thinking about how everything is in perfect working order and shes ready to start but its just not firing so i should definately check the spark plugs.
jw but how come i flooded it in the first place, one plug just wasnt firing and because of this the gas just builds up in the cylinder?
ill go check the plugs right now im hoping that they are all wet because tommorw is my day off and i was plannin on takin the girl(friend) to the beach.... shes gonna be pissed when she hears that im taking the other girl(bike) apart again
EDIT
i only checked two of them and they were a little wet but both sparking ill check the other two in the morning

if they are wet, they are more than likely fouled. Even fouled plugs can still fire out side of the engine, but once gas and compression enter the equation, they don't fire, especially with a weak ignition system like bikes have. Thats the reason I would just buy a new set verus trying to dry out the ones you have. Its been my experience anyway, that once these type of plugs foul, they never work right again.
Plugs foul for all sorts of different reasons. It could have just been coincedance that they fouled, as in they were weak and just happened to foul at that time. Or, sometimes, especially if you are applying too throttle, it can send too much gas into the cyilinder and the spark plug can't ignite the amount of fuel and it fouls. You didnt mention if you used the choke too, but if you did, that would explain the fouled plug, especially with a warm engine.
If it were me. I'd take your gf to the beach. Your bike can wait a day Im sure. Some relationships can tollerate being rejected.... others can't... I think you know which one can be ignored...
Just stop along the way to or from the beach to pick up your plugs.
so, short of what may have happened. You ran out of gas, turned on reserve, it started, but fuel wasn't flowing as good for some reason, ran out again. In haste, you applied too much throttle, then the gas entered the carbs, and when this happens, it never enters evenly, one carb filled first and dumped a bunch of gas into one of the cylinders, since the other carbs werent full yet, the other cylinders didnt fire to start the bike and the one plug fouled.. then later on, they all fouled due to the one that was fouled when you tried to restart it.

Thanks squid. i went into the garage thismorning and tried to start her up just for the hell of it with only 2 plugs and she fired right up. probs kus all the gas had evaporated over night.
im goin to autozone or my local cycles store at 9 when they open to get some new pluggers. then im gonna surprise the gf with a bike ride to the beach. shes gonna be pumped
thanks again.
