Default Bike limited to 190km/h, how to remove???

Guys,
My CBR1000 -04 was brought here to Thailand from Japan. After i bought it, i noticed that i cant go faster than 190km/h, then it cuts.
Seller here in Bangkok says i have to get the Power commander III installed to have the "ECU" "reset" and go faster.
This true? No other way?
I heard that its possible to get a US-ECU (unrestricted), are the ECU's "plug & play"?
Anybody have any idea on how to do?
Many thanks,
Tom

bad bad bad idea... When the japanese police find out, you can kiss your 1000RR GOOD BYE... They aren't too forgive of those who break traffic laws ya'know...

btw, even the US version has limits of speed... 300 km/h and NO FASTER.

now that you mention it, I know there were three versions of the 929 made, one is just listed as a 929, one is a california specific model, and the other is a european model. I would do some homework and see if the same applies to the newer RR's, then check for compatability.
