I am still new to this so if you are a senior member and I posted this in the wrong place I am sorry. Here is my problem, I will be riding my bike normally and all of the sudden the rpm's will drop almost like when you shut the bike off.. Sometimes I can give it a little gas and it will choke a lil but it wont die. Tonight on my ride it started to do something new a couple of times when I would pull my clutch in it would die immedidately. Anyone have any clue as too why this would be going on thank you in advance.

Oh another thing I got a little frustrated with and was bouncing off the rev limiter because it kept dying i know that it didn't help just felt good I guess but anyways my buddy was behind and told me that flames where coming out my tailpipe does this mean I have a misfire

 

does it drop at a certain rpm range? sounds like it might just be your carbs or a jet. Also you'll need to adjust your pilot screws if its stalling when you pull the clutch in.. most likely

 

Sorry you're having this problem, but could you tell us what model/year you bike is? Not easy when we don't have these details. The answers will depend on whether you have a carburated bike or fuel injection.

 

Sorry for my lack of information as far as the bike goes.. It is a 2003 so no carbs.... 03 600RR Jap edition if that makes any difference. It doesn't drop in a certain range atleast not consistently. I am not sure if I should go through and clean all of the connections or what to clean them with any help yet again is highly appreciated ..

Hi. Thanks for extra info on your bike's year/model. As a fuel injected engine is more complicated than a carburated one it is more difficult to diagnose your problem. Having said that all engines need the same things to run properly: Fuel, compression, sparks, and correct ignition timing. If the fuel pressure regulator is faulty then your fuel supply is being reduced for high speed running. Flames coming out of the silencer usually indicates an ignition timing problem. The valve clearances need to be correct as well because if they are tight the valves will not be closing properly reducing cylinder compression. Lots of things to check and it may be a good idea to buy a Haynes manual for your bike and check the fuel injection section for all the tests you can make. I have one for the years '99 to '06 and the number on the front is 3911. It has all you need to try and solve the problem. Fuel injectors may not be opening fully but you would need to remove them and have them cleaned and then tested by a local fuel injection specialist in your area. Hope you get it sorted soon! BTW the ISBN number for the Haynes manual is: 1 84425 595 6. Finally, make sure your battery is getting a good charge on the bike as this will rob the bike of ignition as it loses power whist riding. Test with a multimeter set to direct current voltage across the battery terminals. Rev the bike over 3000/5000 revs and look for 13.5/14.0 volts at least. Any less then I'd replace the battery but give it a good overnight charge before putting it on the bike!

 

Check that the connections to the battery are tight as well as all grounded terminals to the frame. Several bad running engine problems have been traced back to a loose connection recently in some other threads.

Ok so I know it has been quite sometime since I have talked about this but. I just got to my bike with all of the crazy stuff I have to do. Took it out for a ride the other day it was great to get out. The bike is still cutting out when I am riding it. Almost as if it has a brief loss of power and then. It will do one of two things die out completely or if I romp on the throttle sometimes it will catch itself.. The question or idea came to mind kickstand kill switch.. Mine does not work but is still wired up. Does anyone think that this could be the root of my problem.. I have tried looking for a loose connection and checked all of the ground points. I have not test the battery yet because my mulitmeter was broke when I went to use it the other day. Yet again any help on this issue or idea to try is so helpful. This site has some of the best advice I have seen

 

Does everything die? Like the lights,gauges,etc or just the engine itself cutting out?

Does it shut down on all cylinders simultaniously or does it seem like something is still trying to fire, sputtering or anything?

 

No I don't lose all of the lights, It is more a sputter for a minute then it will go either way die completely or grab really hard like it was choking finally got fuel.
