Default Best way to de-rust a tank?

Hey everyone, the inside of my 900rr's tank has some rust and I am looking for the best way it can be done in a single day. So far the easiest thing to do looks like it would be using sand & water and shaking it around in the tank to remove the surface rust, then flushing it all out with distilled water. I've seen some sites talk about chemical rust removal but I don't really know anything about that so if you guys have any recommendations that would be great.

yamaha makes a rust removal kit 2 parts first you remove your petcock and get a rubber plug any automotive shop should have them then fill your tank half full with water put the acid treatment in then fill the rest of the tank let sit if rust is real bad I would let sit over night then drain all the water and put plug back on and add the second part the neutralizer shake around and make sure whole inside of tank gets covered then empty all that you can then I usually take a hair dryer on lowest setting and let it blow inside the tank to evaporate everything and you should be good to go I wouldnt reccommend sand you might not get it all out causing even more problems later

I did read up about this stuff, but it seems it has been discontinued for quite some time now. I might just try the muriatic acid route if the local hardware store carries it, sounds like its probably the same stuff or similar to the first step in yamaha's treatment

what i used to use was a handfull of say3/8 nuts and a couple bottles of heet or alcohol..you would probally want to remove your petcock so it doesnt get damaged but justthrow the nuts in with a bottle of heet and shake the **** out of it..flush it out with water then flush the water out with heet..that will remove any water or moisture from the tank..thats what i did on old dirt bikes
