Default Battery problem/question

My CBR 92 F2 is having a bit of a problem. It would always crank a little slower than I thought it should and the bike took a while to start when using the starter. I could push start it and it would fire up the instant I let out the clutch, so I don't think gas was an issue as the reason for non starting. Anyway, in the last few weeks, if I left the bike sit for a day or two the bike would not crank and I would have to push start the thing to get it running. I checked the voltage last week while the bike was running and the system seemed to be charging, although at the low end of what it probably should be voltage wise. So, I thought the battery was bad. I bought a new battery and charger, but before I shoved the new battery in, i figured I would toss it on the charger.

I measured the voltage before I put it on the charger and it reads 12.8v and the charger green light is on and it does not want to charge the battery. (says battery charged vs a warning light for a battery problem)

Is it possible that the battery is bad and still puts out the proper voltage, but not the cranking power? I already have a new battery, but I need to add the fluid and charge initial before use, so I could return it if the other battery is still good.

If anyone can offer some suggestions I would appreciate it as I don't want to toss a perfectly good battery, add another good battery and still have the same problem.
