Default Any tip on how to replace the upper triple clamps?

Has anybody replaced the upper triple clamps using the stock steering stem?

Has anybody pressed the stem out/in?

How did your swap go?

I've seen a brand new one in billet aluminium on ebay and I was wondering if it's an easy job to do...

Thanks!

As far as getting the stem out of the original clamp, there's not a great way around pressing it out that I know of. However, when you go to reinstall, you can make your life a lot easier by putting the stem in the freezer for a couple hours (or at least long enough to get it to freezer temp), and heat the new lower clamp in the oven at 350 or 400. The stem will usually slide right in, but you have to be somewhat quick. The same method works great for bearing races, etc.

The upper triple clamp is NOT pressed on.

You unbolt the large nut on the top of the triple tree and remove the top triple tree. Very simple.

Depending on the bike, you may also have to unbolt the clip ons from the forks if they are located above the triple tree.

Sorry, I read the first post a little fast, I assumed upper and lower were to be changed. Of course brveagle is right, the upper is pretty quick and easy.

get the front end of the bike off the ground before removing the upper, otherwise the lower will flex enough to where the upper won't line up w the stem to put the new triple back on.
