Its has a three pin plug that slots into the speed sensor coupler. No instructions to say where to connect the green wire goes

Only thing I can suggest is, set up the 3 pin connector, switch ignition on (dont start engine) check that Green neutral light is on, put the bike in gear , check Green light goes out, with the last Free wire touch it against a good earth , if the neutral light comes on then ( even that you know its in gear )that should be connected to your neutral switch

Default The fix

I Figured it out. The plugs on the gear indicator slot into the speed sensor plugs. The speed sensor is very awkward to get at. The extra wire is connected to the tachometer wire which is yellow with a green stripe. Easiest place to connect in is at the ecu box in the tail. Remove the tail and the wire is visible on ecu box on the left side of the tail.
Once connected and programmed it worked perfectly.

What power did you tie into with the red wire? I picked one initially and the unit had power even without the key in the ignition, so I figured that was the wrong one.

Don't remember a red wire. It was just a single green wire that connected to the tachometer.

Okay. The version for the benelli tnt 125 has a red and green wire in addition to the speedo harness male and female. The red is for power and I wired it to the red and white wire in the instrument cluster so it works off of key ignition only.
