Advice wanted, Replacing Throttle Cable
Whats Up Fellas?
I was out dinkin around yesterday and snapped my throttle cable. Not a big problem, and i had planed to take off my plastics anyway for an oil change. However I have never switched out a throttle cable before on a modern bike. Furthermore when i ordered my new part the shop asked if i needed the push cable or the pull cable. I had no idea so i ordered the pull. So... yeah... any advice

RE: Advice wanted, Replacing Throttle Cable
well the replace went pretty smoothly.
1. plastics off
2. seat off
3. tank off
4. air box off
5. velocity stacks off
6. old cable off
7. new cable on at throttle grip first
8. this is key... down near the butterfly attachment to the carbs, there is a guide that you snap the cable into to ensure a tight fit and no loose slack. make sure you attach the cable to the butterfly first! then put the cable in to the guide you will not have enough slack to fit the cable to the butterfly if the cable is all ready in the guide.
but not a difficult project. i would say that with my local shop charging 63 dollars per hour I did myself a favor by earning one bleading knuckle and a lot of knowledge as to what is under the plastic.
thanks slowpoke

RE: Advice wanted, Replacing Throttle Cable
yes you can lube the cables. the most common lube is a squirt of WD 40 down the cable. but completely removing the cable holding it verticle and spraying lube down the cable till it comes out the other end would work the best. otherwise look for a stiffer throttle return spring.
