95 CBR600 F3 Problems
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I just joined the forum today. I purchased a 95 CBR600 F3 last year and had NO problems. Of course by me being a new rider I did not properly store my bike for the winter. When trying to start the bike this year I had all kinds of issues. Bad gas, dirty carbs and also found out that now the bike backfires and have an oil leak from the alternator cover. I tried tightening up the bolt that I seen the oil leaking from and that did not fix the problem. I had the carbs cleaned, gas tank cleaned and the bike started up and I was able to ride it. Still have the oil leak and backfiring issues. Any suggestions?

yea, just take off the cover and see if the cover has a crack or if it just needs a gasket. if the bike has not been down it's probly the gasket (easy fix, do it your self). if by chance it's the cover it.'s still an easy fix, you'll need to order a cover and a gasket

During the winter "storage" months (if you don't plan on riding December / January / Februrary) you can buy "Sta-Bil" ... a red gasoline additive that you run in your gas tank for 4 or 5 minutes with a full tank of fresh gas right before you store it. It stabilizes the gasoline chemically and helps preserve it during those months. It also helps fight internal condensation which naturally occurs in the gas tank.
You can buy it at most Pep-Boys or Advance auto parts, Autozone etc. It only takes a very little bit, so follow the instructions exactly.
You say you had the gas tank "cleaned" ... did they give you an exact explanation as to what they did ? Was it a chemical wash ?
I did a "POR-15" cleaner / rust killer - metal prep / sealer treatment on my gas tank about 5 months ago. This is really the only system that works. It's a bit of a pain in the butt plus $53 for the chemical / sealer kit, but has a reputation for lasting a lifetime if done correctly. Worse case scenario if the gas tank has too much rust you can always just get a new gas tank, but they are not cheap.

When the carbs were cleaned, Where the pilot screws touched? I'd Resync it and adjust the screws as defined in the service manual (downloaded from https://cbrforum.com/m_358809/tm.htm)
