Default '92 F2 Engines?

Hi all !! I'm fairly new here, and wasn't sure where to ask this so... I have a '92 600 F2 and the engine case is cracked(I saw the other post about this too). I am wondering if there is a good source for used engines(w/ low miles-other than E-bay). Or should I try honda direct(sit down before asking $$)about a new motor(if even available). The previous owner tried to jb or weld it, but even with a new gasket and sealer, it still leaks(about 1/2 ounce overnight). I live on the west coast of the U.S.A. are there any reputible/reliable engine builders(maybe in Eastbay or Nor-cal. preferably). The bike does have a salvage title and I don't really want to put too much cash into it, but I do want a good reliable(not necessarily new) bike ( honda does have a great reputation for reliability). I hope this didn't go too long (or get confusing).
Thank you for reading and for your assistance in advance.[8D] Bill...

What kind of damage is it? If its minor cracking, a good welder should be able to fix it for much less than a new engine. Other than that try searching motorcycle junk yards. You can often do this on the internet. (Google). There are hundreds of them and somebody is bound to have an engine.

I have an extra f2 engine that I was using in a streetfighter buildup. I am willing to make a deal but I am on the East Coast. I went with an F3 engine instead. 900rr engines will fit as well.

I made it back(fianlly). The engine is cracked on left side by where the cover bolts are at, I am seriously looking into salvage/recycle yards for that (honda wants $7G's for a new motor,or $1,400 for new engine casings, plus "labor"). I'm going to take to a friends place to get starting problem I'm havingfixed, and we will look into the engine case crack(s?) there to see if we might be able to fix.

Thanx all for your assistance!![sm=smiley20.gif]

It's March!! Time to start ridin' !!

KOOL!! I'm still checking into some other things right now, but, depending on how things go, you might be hearing from me ( I will P.M. you ifthings don't pan out over here, to get the details on the engine).

Thanx for your help!! [sm=smiley20.gif]

remember, a motor from a 91-98 will fit. the frames are identical, so the motors will bolt right up. note the 95-98 motors have a fuel pump and a few other differences though.

there's more to just an engine swap between the f2 and f3 motors. i seem to remember a difference in fuel delivery, airbox, radiator, possibly carburators. remember the f3's had the ram air system and i think a fuel pump, so then there may be a difference in the vaccuum systems betweent the two motors.more to consider beyond the fact that the mounting is the same.

I'm saying you could do the swap, assuming you knew all this, and have the right stuff to adapt it to your needs. also, I believe the F3 airbox is taller than the F2 is, and wont fit under an F2 tank at all.

F2 F3Differences: Carburetors, Computers, Radiators, Power Output, Petcocks, Fuel Delivery, Airbox(not as Different as you think), Speedometer Drive.
F2 F3Similarities: Engine Mounts, Exterior Dimensions, Fuel tank
