2005 CBR1000RR Problem? Plz Help.
Hello, Im new to the forum and the honda scene. I always rode Kawasaki and Suzuki. But I recently bought a 2005 1000rr. Its got 10k miles on it, and has never had anything replaced except for oil changes, filters, brakes, tires, and I just put a barnette clutch kit in it. I noticed when shifting from Nuetral to First its kind of snaps in, not hard to the point that I cant shift it, but you can feel and hear it going in to first. And I also noticed that on hard acceleration, there is a knocking noise that increases with the speed of the bike but seems to go away if I pull the clutch in or let go of the gas. The noise is not comming from the engine I know that because when the clutch is in and I rev the bike there is no knocking, Only on hard acceleration. Someone told me that it could be that I need a chain and sprocket, this would make sence because it is the factory chain and sprocket, and it does have 10k miles. Also it was loose but I pulled the tire back and tightend it up but the noise is still there. Any ideas?? Also I love this bike theres nothing that handles like it, and all the other riders have a hard time keeping upp, and im a big guy 6' 250+lbs....thanks guys
Hondas have noisy clutch baskets. Mine 954 has been like that since i bought it, i will worry when it stops makin noise. if everything seems fine and it runs normal dont worry bout it. Now if the 1000rr are the first honda with a quite basket somebody correct me.
Yea, im just going to get a chain and sprocket kit anyways, just because they are supposed to be done every 10k miles or so. Does any1 know what the most popular chain and sprocket kit is for these bikes. Also how many tooth sprocket kit should i go with. thanks
Just go with the stock size if that's what's on it now. A popular option is a smaller 520 size chain with -1/+2 smaller/larger sprockets for quicker acceleration but you'll lose some top end speed. Go to the Gearing Commander website and load your bike's default setup from the drop-down menu and you can see what the stock size is and how different gearing will affect it.
Also, I'm not so sure about changing the sprockets and chain every 10k miles. That sounds pretty frequent unless the drive system has been neglected and/or ran the **** out of on a regular basis.
