Default 2001 CBR 600f4i - Messed up!

Hello All,

I have been posting in a single thread on the 600f4i forum looking to get some help. I have been getting good responses and am waiting for a bit of further feedback as well. I thought I might try in here to see if I might catch some more people with any other ideas.

My bike is screwed. Electrically, I think. Nothing wrong with frame, chassis, or any of that sort. Just performance.

Here are some symptoms.
1. Bike starts only under heavy throttle, and even full throttle! I thought it shouldnt.
2. Bike will only idle, and this is poor idle, while I'm on the throttle. Will die if I let go.
3. When I finally get the bike into high rpms and keep it above 3500rpm or so, it runs okay. Throttle response is sloppy how ever.
4. Sometimes the bike starts right up, idles great, then dies after about 6 seconds of idling. This is after it has been setting for quite some time. Then the normal problems reoccur. Throttle response during that time is good.
5. The bike destroys gas when I get it above 3500rpm for riding. DESTROYS! about 10mpg, gross.

Okay, so lots of problems, I feel very special in this forum. I could be wrong, but I feel like I am having the most unfortunate time with this. It is very frustrating, overwhelming, and down right discouraging. Especially with all this beautiful weather!

Here is what I have done to the bike.
Fuel system cleaned. Replaced fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator. Cleaned injectors, fuel rail, and the tank. Drained oil, replaced oil, and oil filter. New air filter. New spark plugs. New battery.

What do you all have in mind? Anything at all? If you see this "Luck Runs Out", please don't be offended. I appreciate your help so very much, I am just trying to catch additional people for all the input I can get. God this is depressing!

Thanks so much for reading through my chapter book. Hope you are all enjoying the spring.

Best,
Antonio

thats a tough one. The first thing I would have suggested would have been the FPR, but you replaced that already.

Does the bike run rich? can you smell gas while its running?

Does it flash any codes?

With everything you have checked already, I would lean towards the Throttle Position Sensor, or TPS. When that goes bad, it will create all of the issues you are describing. It may even just need to be adjusted, but if no one has messed with it or bumped it hard, it really shouldnt go out of adjustment.

good luck with it.

Hey Squid,

It runs extremely rich! Thank about it,, 9mpg! It's destroying gas! It flashes 2 times. Short blinks. MAP sensor. I checked out a TPS today....1100 bucks. Over a grand. Gross. I would like to find it loads cheaper than that! I guess it comes installed on the throttle body! 1100 bucks. I'm mad!

It has been layed down. It scuffed up the sides, and broke blinkers and such. But nothing extreme. Unless it took out the TPS. Ugh. Thanks so much for your input bud.

Best,
Antonio

Is the MAP sensor still good?

are the hoses to your map sensor hooked up securely?

I would just look for a set of throttle bodies on Ebay. there is no way I would ever pay 1100 bucks for a set. I have no idea why Honda won't sell just the TPS without having to buy the entire throttle body.

Did this only happen after the crash? or did it happen later on?

Its hard to believe that the TPS was taken out from the crash. Its possilbe it was moved in the crash. It may just need to be calibrated back into spec.

Hey Squid,

I am uncertain as to if the MAP sensor is still good. I have tested it with my voltmeter and am waiting for some help from a friend on this forum to diagnose it. It operates within voltage spec, so I assume it's okay. The hoses look good and secure. There are so many of them coming off the union behind the throttle body, I guess I should check them all more closely.

As for the TPS and Throttle body, yes, it is ridiculous. I am hoping to find something on ebay for way cheaper. I don't think I want to spend a fraction of that! I bought the bike for a wicked good price, even with the TPS from the dealer at 1100, I would still be making out. Won't do it though!

I bought the bike knowing it didn't start, so I did not lay it down. Unfortunatley, being an amatuer, and a little too excited, I didn't know all the questions to ask when I bought the bike. But I haven't regreted my purchase yet!

You are the second one to mention the TPS can be calibrated a little bit. I will look into this further. Thanks so much.

Best,
Antonio
