Default 2 questions

hey guys ok first um what exactly does a spedometer do? and i took the cap of of the oil reserve and it smells like gas in there
now i really am not mechanicly inclined but i'm pretty sure its not supposed to smell like gas is this bad?

A speedohealer plugs inbetween your speed pickup sensor and your instrument cluster and alters the speed signal so that the correct speed is shown on your display. All you have to do is program the healer with the proper correction factor in percent.

NO, you should not really smell gas in your oil.

lol hotwire when i first read it and u said speedometer omg I was like.....poor guy but then i saw what u meant lol that was good! and no you shouldnt smell gas there it could be something internal I'll read up on it for ya cause im really bored get back to ya when i find out =P

If someone didn't pour gas in your crankcase, it could only come from a leaky float valve in the carbs. Unless you have FI, then you have a problem. With your bike on the sidestand, gas can leak past a leaky petcock into the carbs. Usually no problem unless one or more of the float valves are also leaking. Then gas overflows the float chamber into the intake manifold. There the gas goes into number one cylinder cause it's the lowest. There it can cause hydrolock or leak past the rings into the crankcase. If it was mine, I would change the oil, repair the petcock, clean the carbs, and change the float needle and seats.

yeah they guys i bought it from did a tune up and stuff.its definatly gas i smell not to strong but present.i hope this doesnt turn into anything too serious.thanks guys

well your oil is petrolium based unles it synthetic.....

also when/ if u replace the needles and such in the carbs before u check the float height on the carbs.
