Hello all,

My CBR has a rattle from the gearbox at idle, I can hear it with the bike idleing and feel some vibration, when I pull the clutch lever in the noise and vibration go away.

Is this a clutch issue or gearbox issue?

It does not jump out of gear or get false neutrals.

It's not uncommon for there to be some audible noise with the clutch released and just idling. Does it go away when you rev the engine ? How long has it been doing this ?

 

You're clutch basket may be getting worn. The clutch fibers have tabs that slide in between the basket. Over time (usually on higher mileage units) the tabs will ratttle in between the fingers of the basket due to wear.

 

Im with IDoDirt on this one. More than likely is just the normal clutch noise. Unless its really loud, I'd say its probably just the normal noise.

If its really loud, you may have one of the bearings going out. But again, these bikes will have some noise at idle with the clutch out. the 90's generation of sportbikes tended to be a bit worse for the noise as well. My old F3 off the showroom floor was quite bad. And any 900RR I"ve ever heard seems to be quite noticable. But all bikes will do it a little, just some are more noticable than others.
