Default 05 cbr 600rr water pump problem

hey guys, every time i put water in my rad it is leaking out of a hole by the water pump and after running for 10 sec there is some oil coming out around the seal or around the same area as the water pump is this a serious problem or something minor i can take care of. I got this bike as a track bike. and didnt notice till i got it home.

It sounds to me that the coolant and oil are coming out of the weep hole which means its time for a new water pump. My bike is doing the same thing and the more you ride it the more it is going to leak. Also if your using it as a track bike you most likely don't want water and oil dripping onto your rear tire and/or track as that will cause you to go down. I would buy a new water pump (they are about $150) and that should fix your problem. Also its a pretty easy install.

+1. The weep hole is there to let you know the seal is going bad. What usually happens is the bearing is going bad and it takes out the seal. Sometimes, the seal just fails even though everything else is ok. You wont know until you take the pump off. You could replace the seal and the bearing and might save a litte money, but I would just replace the pump. Its easiest and also better unsurance that the pump is correct.

Don't ride the bike too much longer though. You surely don't want to have your pump fail and overheat the engine.

Also, as already stated. there is no way they will allow that bike onto the track in the current condition. It will have to be free of any oil and any coolant leaks. And they will check the bike. If there is any sign that there ever was a leak, you better have proof it is fixed, or you will not be riding on the track.

and whatever you do, don't just plug the hole. the pump on its way out and plugging the hole will do nothing but mask the problem that the pump is going to fail.
