Default 04 CBR600RR Over heating

Hello everyone, I bought a 2004 CBR600RR off a friend of mine. I'm not sure if what the bike is doing is normal or not but i thought id ask. If i turn the bike and just let it sit there and idol i can cause its self to over heat and heat up to 250 or higher witch causes the red oil light to come on. i was told by a parts guy at iron pony that this is normal but my buddy who has a 2006 CBR600RR says that his won't do that. any answers would be great!
thanks!

Does the fan come on?
Is there coolant in it?
Does the radiator cap hold pressure?
Is the thermostat opening and closing properly?

@74demon . yeah the fan kicks on at 220, yes there is coolant in it. i flushed it and put new coolant after a coulee weeks of owning it. i assume the cap holds pressure and how can i check the thermostat opening and closing?

Make sure you check the coolant level. Sometimes the coolant can't circulate because of an air pocket in the system. The overflow bottle being over or underfilled is a major culprit in this.

Will the bike overheat when ridden? Does the temp go back down when you get airflowing over the radiator?

Yeah the coolant level is a little above my "low" level just because i want it to have a little extra in it. the bike won't over heat when i ride but once i stop in traffic if I'm sitting for a 10 mins or more it'll start to climb. once i start riding and getting air flow into the radiator it'll drop temp. i just didn't know if it was bad that it can just get it self to over heat while just idling ...

I'd call that normal, yet annoying. I get the same. I'm thinking I might have some scaling and electrolysis (normal chemical process that happens over time). I recently changed coolant in the F4i to Maxima Coolanol. I might later try Engine Ice or even Evans Waterless.

yeah I've been told its normal but its really annoying and kinda scary in the moment. when I'm on my way to class and its stop go stop go traffic and its like 255 and the red oil light is on.

In heavy traffic if it looks like people are losing patience, I do whatever I can to get out of it for my own safety. I'm also a safety hazard if my bike overheats in standstill traffic.

Sometimes I shut the motor off, sometimes I do whatever I need to do to get air flowing over the radiator again.

It's not legal anywhere in the US to best of my knowledge. I saw something recently that California was finally passing legislation to make it legal. I thought it was legal in Calif all along.
