Default 01 F4i Electrical Problem?

So my battery died a few months ago from sitting all winter. I got a new battery and a tender and it has been on it since i installed the battery. A few weeks ago i take the bike out for a ride and when i get almost home the speedo drops to 0 and stays there for about 30 seconds then display the current speed like always.

I take the bike out two days ago and it seems a bit hard to start, when i get on the road every time i shift the speedo drops to 0 then comes back to normal. After about a min of riding the fuel injection light comes on. So i bring the bike back home and park it. Go out yesterday and the speedo is at 0 and the FI light comes on in about a min. When i get home i turn the bike off then try to start it and it starts but definitely takes a little longer to start like the battery was dying already.

Any idea where i should start looking for possible problems?

Sounds like early stages of the Regulator/Rectifier (R/R) going bad. Put a meter on your battery while it's running to see what you get. Should read 13 to 15vdc when RPM is between 3K and 5K. If your readings are ok, then have the battery load tested at a local auto parts store.

Multimeter shows 14.66v at 3k+ rpms and 14.59v at idle.

Well i thought the charging problem was just a fluke and only had a problem with the speedo and the FI blinking 11 times indicating a problem with the speed sensor. But now i noticed the battery isnt charging. I had it off the tender for a day or two and it was some what hard to start then i rode around for a little bit, parked it and when i tried to start it, there was almost no crank at all just the gauges worked.

My question is, if the stator is bad and the battery is good the bike will not continue to run right? but if the stator is good and the battery is bad once you push start it the bike will run fine?

Yes, but it's uncommon for the Stator to go bad, and it's easy to check with a meter. The more common problem is the R/R.

Well i got around to taking the bike to my local and tested the battery and it said to replace battery and 0% life remaining. So a battery less then two months is already bad, well guess i wont buy cheap batteries anymore. Now i just have to see if with a new battery the speedo problem will go away. If not then ill have to order a new VSS.

I had a battery fail after using it like 5 times. Autozone battery of all things. The seal wouldn't seal well enough since after I opened the battery case to find that it was wet on top of the battery. Stupid Autozone battery's.
