wondering about chain and sprocket gearing
 

I was reading some information about the opimum gearing for the f4i is 15 tooth on the front sprocket and 48 on the rear, is this true or is the factory gearing the best

There is no optimal gearing. It's what you want out of your gearing that makes it more suited to a particular end result or not.

I went 16 / 42, makes for relaxed highway cruising but still lots of power off the lights. Now I don't have to shift out of first after 15 feet........

I totally forgot, what is the count of teeth for OEM honda sprockets?

As I understood, going -1/+2 will make shifting earlier... hmmm

All depends on what you want out of your bike. If you want strong acceleration and relaxed cruising get a 1000!

OEM is 16/46.

So I am not happy with the stock gearing at all. I believe it is way too tall. When I was at Willow Springs, I NEVER saw 6th and only used 5th for a second at around 145mph at the end of the main straight. So if I use a 15/49, it is practically the same as 14/46. So I guess my question is, are there any advantages or disadvantages to such a small from sprocket. Like, will a small front sprocket wear out chains faster? I mean, I know it is minor, but if I do go with the 14/46, it is a little lighter than a 15/49.

Ive asked before and didn't really get a straight answer. But if I were to go -1/+2 or anything very close to that does this require more links/less, or is the original 108 links going to work?
