I have been told this is the safest way to wheely. There is no jerking motion from clutch engaging making bike want to tilt. I still haven't tried standing up on the pegs while doin it, but some guys say there is more balance. From what I've seen it is all in comfort zone of each rider individually. Bee careful and don't do in traffic. Lookin cool ain't sh*t if you or someone else gets hurt watchin what your doin instead of the road. IMO![8D]

i have it at around 9000 in first then crack the throttle, the jerk back while pulling up on the bars is usually enough to bring it up...i have been unsuccessful doing it in second. i dont think ill be bringing it up again for awhile as i just got my bike back form paint

Jesus, this thread is 4 years old...

It's unanimous among riders, clutch wheelies is the only way to go. More predicable, better for your transmission and MUCH smoother. You just have to be quick to react with the throttle hand to let off just as you feel balance point.

Just practice popping the front wheel in a parking lot for a day and you will eventually keep going longer and looonger and loooooonger.

Here's the best wheelie writeup on the web
