What type of oil do you use?
I just purchased a used 2002 F4i with 22,000 miles. It runs fine however was on the low side when it came to the oil. The oil had just been changed so I just added a bit of Pro Honda HP4. Put about 100 miles on it in one session. The next day I started it up only to hear a "dry start" knock. Thinking that I didn't know what type of oil the previous owner used, I simply went and got a new filter and 4 quarts of Pro Honda HP4 and changed the oil. I rode it about 20 miles after that and could clearly hear some ticking, probably lifters, around 3,000RPM. I let it cool all the way down and went out and started it this evening only to hear the "dry start" knock even worse. Well, I got to looking into the oil and it contains moly which I have figured out is very bad for wet clutches. Anyway, I am going to go get new oil and stuff first chance I get, before I ride it again, and would like to hear what everyone else is running. Do you think that I am nuts for assuming this is the oil causing this? The knock was not present before I originally added 1/2 quart of this. Please, any advice would be great!! I have already spent too much on this used bike and am not looking to spend another thousand rebuilding the motor. The CCT is bad but it has been ordered and will be in next week.

BTW: there is a small search button - if it does not work, well, google 'cbr 600 oil type' - you should get something close to 3,000,000 results, read just the first ten and you will be golden...

Thanks everyone! I wanted to run some conventional oil through it to maybe flush it out a bit or in other words, I am too tight ot buy synthetic to only run it a few hundred miles and change it again, and will switch back to synthetic in a few hundred miles. Took away the rattling and dry start. It's a cool 55 degree here at 5:30 in the morning and gettting ready to fire it up and head to work. The true test will be this morning because it is pretty chilly for the dry start. Now I am ready for that CCT to come in at the parts store so I can spend all afternoon getting pissed off at how cramped it is and how it takes so much time to remove and reinstall 2 bolts! I love this site: I got some great tips on how to change the CCT and am hoping it doesn't take that long!
