At what RPM are you riding?
Hi guys, was wondering at what rpm you guys are riding. To get to work, it's all low speed streets 50km/h, and I was wondering at what rpm people ride.
I go as low as 3k, enough power etc, but wondering if it's too little and the engine would prefer reving more.
Thanks

6-8k shifting and cruising before blowing the original motor at 61k.
a week later, another low mileage motor was installed and ive kept it at 3-5k cruising rpms and 5-6k shifts and occasionally shifting at 7-9k if im getting on it to get out of the way or riding onto the interstate. on these bikes, it probably really doesnt make a difference if you shift a higher mileage engine at higher rpms, it wont hurt it, still i just dont ride around at higher rpms all the time anymore after my blown motor experiance..

3000rpm or above for light acceleration. Anything above 1st gear I wouldn't go full throttle at 3k though, thats alot of cylinder pressure. You must have some slow roads in your area, Im either at 50mph [4k rpm] side streets or 85mph [7k rpm] freeway here.
What specifically 'blew up' on your engine? CCT? Valves? Con rod? Cylinder ring? Bearings?
I ride between 4-7k rpm, these engines like to be rev'ed at higher rpm.
I remember my old CB-1, 400cc engine w/13500 rpm red line, always screaming like an angry bee 9k rpm at 75-80mph, but engine never seem overworked.
Even my Ninja 250, 10-11k rpm at 80-85 MPH, 10-11k rpm on the tiny twin, 22k miles so far, no problem.

it dropped the# three intake valves. when tearing down to investigate the "blown" engine i could not find evidence of whether it was from valve adjustments neglected by me (tight valves) or valve/ valve parts (seat, spring, retainer cotter, ect) prematurely malfunctioning and breaking. ive taken good care of it, as far as not redlining it on purpose, ect... in the year and a half ive owned it its only seen redline maybe five times by accident (mis shifts and such) what i found was the valve spring was broken in two, the two valves where broken at the bottom of the stem and the shim was embedded into the retainer, the cotter desentigrated and scattered into the engine somewhere, lol...niiice huh. now i will mention in that same year and a half and 41k miles ive been riding it every day as my daily, touring on 2-3 day tours every month, and a little drag racing it on weekends during the simmer, oops i mean summer, lol. regular oil changes, never ever purposely or continuously dinging it off the rev limiter or nothing like that though.
anyway, lol, not to thread jack so back to the topic.
